What is the difference between Mississippi Pot Roast and Regular Pot Roast?

Mississippi pot roast always has the ranch seasoning, butter and pepperoncini/banana peppers to make a somewhat tangy and maybe even a little bit spicy flavor profile.

Let’s start off with some tips to save some time.

How to Save Time Making Mississippi Pot Roast

The three best tips I have are to use already cubed stew meat, buy a bag of baby or fingerling potatoes and go with one of these bags of baby carrots:

Buying the ingredients already in the proper size saves time, but costs money. Conversely, if you want save money…

How to Save Money Making Mississippi Pot Roast

If you want to save money on this Mississippi Pot Roast recipe, it will cost you some time. Chop your own potatoes (like we did here in this post). Also buy the whole carrots that need to be peeled and chop them yourself. Additionally, buy the cheapest chunk of beef you can buy. I recently used bottom round roast in a pot of crock pot chili which was 33% cheaper than 80/20 ground beef:

Season the Pot Roast

Then, pour the two types of seasoning, garlic and cubed beef into the plastic bag and work the seasoning and garlic all around the meat to coat thoroughly.

Next, drop the chunked potatoes on the bottom, then layer down the carrots, followed by the seasoned beef and finally top with butter and pepperoncinis (or banana peppers):

Recipe for Mississippi Pot Roast in Crock Pot Recap

I know the pepperoncinis/banana peppers scare some of you. In fact, I’m not a fan myself. I love spicy stuff, but I can’t stand either of these peppers. This Mississippi pot roast in crock pot doesn’t taste like those peppers. They just add a little pizzazz. This is a wonderful and quick way to prepare a crock pot full of some of the best comfort food you can ever make. And when I say that it doesn’t take much time, I mean it takes less than 5 minutes. Chunking the potatoes into cubes and slicing the butter into tablespoons or pats of butter. Particularly if you go with cubed stew beef.
