Turkey Burgers
We’re on the doorstep of Memorial Day Weekend which is the official start of the BBQ season for millions. Grillin Fools all around the world have been grilling year round but for many this is the start of the smoky season where succulent and savory slabs of sustenance are slow cooked or seared fast all Summer till Labor day. There will be millions upon millions of burgers grilled up this weekend. Don’t be part of the humdrum herd. Don’t buy the prepackaged burgers from your local warehouse store. Take a little time and take your burgers to the next level and make a healthier meal at the same time. I will hand it over to my cousin now who will show you how to make these amazing burgers…
Ingredients:
1 pound ground turkey breast
1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
2 TBS milk
1 egg
1 tsp cilantro
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 stalk celery
1/4 onion
1/4 red bell pepper
1/4 jalepeno
olive oil
four slices of your cheese
four buns
Chop celery, onion, red pepper and jalepno to a fine dice (should be approx 1 cup chopped vegetables total). Saute in olive oil over medium heat until slightly transparent and tender.
While cooked vegatables cool combine remaining ingredients into a bowl, add cooled vegetables and mix thoroughly. The vegetables will not only add flavor to the burgers, they will also add moisture which will help ensure that the burgers are juicy and delicious. Pat into four patties and regrigerate at least 30 to 45 minutes before cooking:
Prepare grill, in this case a Big Green Egg, for direct grilling over medium heat.
Brush top of turkey burgers with olive oil and place on hot grill olive oil side down. Brush other side with olive oil. Cook approx 10 minutes, then turn, cooking other side until done (approx another 10 minutes):
*Note – the texture of the patties is somewhat “loose”. Don’t over-handle or turn too often or they will fall apart.
When burgers are almost done place sliced cheese on burgers, and place buns on grill:
Remove from grill, assemble with your favorite condiments and serve while hot:
The result is a moist, tender, healthy burger!
Shown served with grilled asparagus and sweet potato fries & green beans.
Sweet Potato Fries
Microwave one large sweet potato 2 minutes, turn and microwave an additional 2 minutes
Cut into fries
Toss with olive oil, salt, pepper and ground red pepper
Spread onto cookie sheet covered with foil
Cook in a 375 degree oven for approx 30 minutes
Broil last minute or two for extra crispy fries
